Joint Working Group Meeting to discuss U.S.-Russian scientific collaborations

Through longstanding capacity-strengthening efforts and widespread recognition throughout the region, AECA has consistently facilitated bilateral cooperation between U.S. and Eurasian academic and government agencies. AECA provided technical assistance to the U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI), playing an essential role in expanding the NIH-NCI partnership with the Russian Federation. AECA’s efforts to improve international cooperation served as a valuable foundation for a jointly-sponsored Request for Application (RFA) between NCI and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, which encouraged innovative scientific projects of high priority to both nations. The ten highest scoring applications were ultimately co-funded, representing over 60% of NCI’s extramural grant portfolio in Russia.
